Roofing FAQ

We believe an informed homeowner makes the best decisions, so here are honest, plain-language answers to the questions we hear most often. If yours isn’t covered, give us a call — we’re always happy to explain.

How much does a new roof cost in Massachusetts?

There’s no single price, because the cost depends on your roof’s size and pitch, how many old layers come off, its complexity (valleys, chimneys, dormers), the materials you choose, and the condition of what’s underneath. Any roofer who quotes a firm price over the phone without seeing your roof is guessing. We come out, look at your actual roof, and give you a clear, itemized number with no pressure.

Should I repair my roof or replace it?

A repair often makes sense when the roof is still relatively young, the damage is localized, and the rest of the roof is sound. Replacement tends to be the smarter investment when the roof is near the end of its life, there’s widespread damage, or you’ve already repaired it several times. We’ll tell you honestly which situation you’re in — and if a repair will solve it, we’ll say so, even though a replacement would pay us more.

How long does a roof replacement take?

Most residential roof replacements are completed in a day or two, depending on the size and complexity of the roof and the weather. Larger or more complex roofs can take longer. We’ll give you a realistic timeline upfront and keep you informed throughout, so you’re never left wondering what’s happening.

What are the signs I need a new roof?

Common signs include curling, cracked, or missing shingles, granules collecting in your gutters, water stains on ceilings or walls, daylight or moisture in the attic, and a roof that’s simply reached its expected age. Some of these mean a repair; others point to replacement. An honest inspection is the only way to know for sure.

Why does roof ventilation matter?

Poor attic ventilation traps heat and moisture, which shortens shingle life, can cause mold and rot in the roof deck, and feeds ice dams in winter. Balanced intake and exhaust keeps the attic cool and dry and helps your roof reach its full lifespan. It’s one of the most overlooked parts of a roofing system, and we treat it as part of the job rather than an upsell.

What causes ice dams, and can they be prevented?

Ice dams form when heat escaping into the attic melts snow on the roof, which then refreezes at the cold eaves and forces water back under the shingles. They’re largely a heat problem, not a snow problem — so prevention comes from proper attic insulation, balanced ventilation, sealing attic air leaks, and ice-and-water shield along the eaves. When ice dams keep returning, we look at why the roof is losing heat rather than just treating the symptom.

Do you offer free estimates?

Yes. We’ll come out, look at your roof, explain what we find in plain language, and give you a clear estimate — with no pressure and no obligation. Even if you decide not to move forward, our goal is that you leave understanding your roof better than before.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. We carry proper registration and insurance, and we’re happy to provide proof — you should ask that of any contractor you consider. As a family-owned company whose name is on every roof we install, standing behind our work is the whole point.

What areas do you serve?

We’re based in Leominster and serve homeowners across Central Massachusetts and into southern New Hampshire. You can see our service area on our Areas We Serve page — and if your town isn’t listed, give us a call, since there’s a good chance we cover it.
